It would also mean that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first new major Mario game to come out since Super Mario Odyssey in 2017. Even though this is a big difference, it may be more important that it breaks one of the biggest rules of the series that has been there for about a decade.
Since New Super Mario Bros. U came out in 2012, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the first brand-new game in the main series that is only in 2D. This would mean that a new standard 2D Mario game hasn't come out in almost 11 years, though there are some exceptions to that. |
